Yield Monitors

With the help of Global Positioning System (GPS) in farming, farming has grown beyond the early practice of traditional methods of farming. In short, farmers break fields down into regions, or cells, analyzing growth characteristics of each cell and improving crop health and yield by applying exact amounts of seed, fertilizer and pesticides as needed. some equipments are even able to detect the vegetation conditions.

Yield monitors can calculate yield as bushels per acre, total pounds, acres per hour worked and grain moisture content. This is all done while the combined is in use. They then can be recorded on a memory card for further analysis. Sensors monitor, calculate and record, in real time, the amount of time needed for the crops to be harvested.

Some equipments needed

Field Scouting

Field scouting uses a portable geographic information system that allows farmers to identify and locate the problems or events that will affect production - including soil differentiations, pest infestations and other factors. With the help of satellite images, farmers are able to identify problems before serious visible damages take place.

Special Lights

These special lighting improves the growth rate of the plants.

Lau Yu Serge's Opinion

I think that Singapore cannot only survive with agrotechnology. It also needs the help of neighbouring
countries to import food. However, there is not much land available for farming in SIngapore. Thus, high
technology farming does not produce enough products for its needs. Therefore, Singapore is unable
to survive alone with agrotechnology.

Agrotechnology: Aeroponics/Hydroponics

Agrotechnology

Purpose: To enhance the growth rate and productivity levels of the plant so as to allow more plants to grow to suit the demands of Singaporeans.

The types of farming includes Aeroponics and Hydroponics. As compared to the traditional method of farming, Agrotechnology requires more cost as there are special equipments needed. Some of these many equipments include special lights that improves the growth rate of plants and water pumps. However with the help of Agrotechnology, humans are able to save land space as well as produce healthy crops with high productivity levels.

1. Hydroponics farming is farming when plans are not planted in the soil but foam. How do the plants get their supply of oxygen, water and nutrients? Water is pumped through a water pump to the plants. Nutrients are sprayed onto the plants. Not all agrotechnology farms control the oxygen supply of the plants.

Singapore is famous for its wide variety of orchids. These Orchids are also products of agrotechnology.

2. Aeroponics farming is a technique for growing plants without soil or hydroponic media. The plants are held above a system that constantly mists the roots with nutrient-laden water. With Aeroponics farming, People will require much more lesser space as the plants are hung above the ground. The rest of the water and nutrients distributions do not differ much.
